When To Visit Lombok

Lombok, with its virgin beaches, the rugged looming Mount Rinjani and quaint fishing villages is a quintessential tourist paradise. Its proximity to Bali, a tourist hotspot, attracts millions of backpackers, who wish to get away from the crowd and indulge in a tranquil, luxuriant vacation. However, the main concern of most tourists is the best time to visit Lombok. Now the tourist season of any destination depends on the climatic and weather conditions of the region.

Due to its proximity to the equator, the climate of Lombok is tropical. Winters are cool and pleasant and summers are tempered by refreshing rainfalls. The days are almost 12 hours long and the average daytime temperature varies from 27 C to 32 C. the dry season lasts from May to September while the wet season extends from October through April. The dry season is the best to tour Lombok as backpackers and trekkers find it extremely inconvenient to undertake their expeditions during a downpour. However you may wish to bear in mind that rains do not last long in Lombok. May, June and July are the peak tourist months when most visitors to the country make a beeline for Lombok. It is also essential to check with the dive operators and tour operators in case you wish to venture into adventure sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving.

Tourists wishing to study a foreign culture closely often schedule their trip to coincide with the festival days of the destination. The Lingsar temple Pujawali, a temple festival of Lombok is celebrated in January and the Independence Day on August 17th every year heralds cheer and many gay festivities. The legendary Bau Nyale Festival is held in February and hence you may wish to participate in the native spirit or catch a glimpse of the traditional fortune telling rituals during this month. Lombok is an excellent getaway in the winter months as the weather remains pleasant and equitable.

Lombok is a veritable treasure trove for most tourists. No matter when you visit, do carry light cottons in general and light woolens if you plan to scale Mount Rinjani. Off season discounts are offered by most hotels and tourist operators. However, come May, the island dons a festive look and gets ready to welcome the many globetrotters who come into Lombok’s fold.
